Details

Half a decade after his variety show on ABC ended, Johnny Cash began hosting an annual Christmas special for CBS, bringing a down-home (and frequently more reverent) element to the body of holiday specials made popular by the likes of Andy Williams and Bing Crosby.

For his fourth such special, in 1979, Johnny, along with his father, Ray Cash, and older brother Roy, takes us for a visit to his childhood home in Dyess, Arkansas. Johnny and June’s guests include Anne Murray, then at the height of her popularity; Tom T. Hall, whom Cash introduces as “my very favorite songwriter”; and Andy Kaufman (yes, that Andy Kaufman).

Songs include: 1.Opening-Andy Kaufman 2.(Ghost) Riders In The Sky-Johnny Cash 3.Five Feet High And Rising-Johnny Cash 4.You Needed Me-Anne Murray 5.That Christmasey Feeling-Johnny Cash & Anne Murray 6.The Ballad Of The Harp Weaver-Johnny Cash 7.That’s Why You Have To Be You-Tom T. Hall 8.Tom T. Hall Medley 1. Country Is 2. Old Dogs, Children, And Watermelon Wine 3. The Year That Clayton Delaney Died 4. I Love 5. Country Is

9.If I Were A Carpenter-Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash 10.That’s When Your Heartaches Begin-Andy Kaufman 11.Christmas Is-Tom T. Hall 12.Back Up And Push-June Carter Cash 13.Christmas Wishes-Anne Murray 14.Let There Be Peace On Earth-Johnny Cash
